Founded in 2012, Epsilon Alpha Sigma's annual Remembering the Refugees charity event is devoted to showcasing the beauty that lies within our Arab culture while raising funds to abet a humanitarian crisis in the Arab World. Hosting this annual event is a requirement set upon each chapter by the National Board. In this event's infancy, we have collectively raised an estimated $108,245 towards medical aid, transportation services and educational resources towards refugees in the Arab region. In creating this tradition, our founder's aim was to make a direct positive change to those who are affected by conflicts in the region. By stepping away from the politics that have influenced the lives of so many who live in refugee camps, our sisters are able to focus on how to help rebuild the lives of these refugees.
As of 2016, our funds from the Remembering the Refugees will go towards Friends of Kayany / the Kayany Foundation. Friends of Kayany, Inc. and Kayany Foundation share the same charitable goal: educating Syrian refugee children living in Informal Tented Settlements (ITS) in Lebanon. The schools Friends of Kayany support offer Syrian refugee children the opportunity to learn in a clean, safe, and supportive environment. Epsilon Alpha Sigma values Friends of Kayany's work in providing such education resources. A few of our doves visited a few of the Kayany Foundation's schools, below are some photos from their visit.
