"Ahhhh, it's that time of the year again. After a nice long summer break, Bruins come together to start the new school year and the scene is all too familiar. Spirit is at the year's all time high, students are rejuvenated and ready to tackle the new school year, friends embrace and reunite, freshmen nervously and excitedly start a new chapter of their life, and Greeks line up and down BruinWalk scouting for potential sisters and brothers to join their family.
It wasn't until I stumbled upon the Facebook event for the Empowered Arab Sisterhood's winter quarter rush week that I decided to be open minded and give this sorority thing a fair shot. I was allured by the organization's impressive and progressive goals and mission statement. It didn't seem like the typical sorority. And making the decision to rush was one of the best experiences of my college career.
Instantly, you feel the warmth from the sisters and you feel at home. It's that good old Arab hospitality! You see diversity in these women. Girls that come from all over the Middle East and have a unique story to tell or quality to contribute. You immediately have a support system right there for you, excited to create new memories that will last a lifetime. You find that this sorority isn't all just about fun and games. That this sorority represents so much more with its strict philanthropic focus and hungry desire to make a difference in this world. A difference that you can be a part of! Change happens when empowered women come together for a common goal, and beautiful friendships blossom out of them too!
Rush Epsilon Alpha Sigma, the first Arab sorority at UCLA and in the nation, founded right here at UCLA this fall! You won't regret it!"
